MESSAGE OF THE PENTECOSTAL FILLING
OF THE HOLY SPIRIT

I. What is the Pentecostal filling of the Holy Spirit?

    A. It is not getting the Holy Spirit, for every Christian has the Holy Spirit (I Cor.6:19; Rom.8:9).

    B. It is one of the unique fillings of the Holy Spirit (Acts 2:4). There are other important fillings of the  Spirit, such as a filling for victorious living (Eph. 5:18), and a filling for boldness in witnessing (Acts 4:31).

    C. It is a supernatural release of the presence and power of the Holy Spirit from within our spirits  (John 7:37-39).

    D. It is receiving the power of the Holy Spirit to do the works of Jesus (John 14:12; Acts 1:8).

    E. It is receiving the power of the Holy Spirit to verbally praise  and worship God in a new and deeper way (Acts 2:4, 11; 10:45,46).

     F. It is receiving the power of the Holy Spirit to flow in the  manifestations of the Spirit (I Cor. 12:7-11).

II. What is speaking in tongues?

      A. It is one of the first manifestations of the pentecostal filling of the Spirit (Acts 2:4; 10:45,46;19:6).

      B. It is speaking words and phrases in a spiritual language with your human spirit (with the help of the Holy Spirit) to God (I Cor. 14:2,14,15).

      C. It is mainly speaking words & phrases of prayer & praise to God with your spirit (Acts 10:46; I Cor.14:14,15).

III. Why should we speak in tongues?

        A. It will free your human spirit to praise & worship the Lord with a greater liberty (Acts 2:4 - the Greek word for enabled [NIV] means the “freedom to speak out”).

       B. It will enrich and help our prayer lives (I Cor.14:14, 15).

       C. It is spiritually edifying (I Cor. 14:4). It builds up the human spirit; it is like charging our spirit battery.

       D. It stirs up the supernatural waters in our lives  (Acts 19:6;
I Cor. 14:2).

IV How can we speak in tongues?

      A. We need to know that this blessing and gift is for us
(Acts 2:39; I Cor. 14:5a).

      B. We need to earnestly desire to have this gift and manifestation (Matt.5:6; I Cor. 14:1).

      C. We should humble ourselves, and admit we need the gift in our lives (I Peter 5:5,6).

      D. We should ask the Lord to fill us with the Holy Spirit, and ask the Lord to give us a new spiritual language (Matt.7:7-11).

       E. We should be sensitive to the way the Holy Spirit leads us to speak in tongues (I Thess. 5:19).

1. The Spirit may give an inner desire or urge to speak out some different or foreign sounding syllables.
2. The Spirit may put some different or foreign syllables in your mind.
3. The Spirit may be just leading us to speak out some different and new sounds.

        F. We should speak out these different and foreign sounds and syllables in faith (Matt. 14:29).

G. We should continue to speak in tongues on a regular basis    (I Cor. 14:14,15,18).

     1. We will develop and enlarge our prayer language, if we make it a regular practice  in our lives.
    2. We will get more words and phrases in tongues, if we keep speaking.
    3. We can choose to speak in tongues at any time  (I Cor. 14:15).
    4. We should speak in tongues even when we don’t feel like it (II Cor. 5:7).
    5. We can and should expand our new spiritual language by speaking new sounds and syllables.

        H. We can and should sing in tongues (I Cor. 14:14 & 15).
